Hike Urban and Mountain Trails

Hikers of every skill level will find a trail to enjoy in Anchorage. There are 135 miles of paved urban trails in Anchorage close enough to be easily accessible but scenic enough to forget that Alaska’s largest city is a stone’s throw away. Anchorage’s trails are also for more than just walking. In the summer, many people enjoy the trail system for running, biking and roller blading. In the winter, trails may be used for cross-country skiing, skijoring, snowshoeing and dog mushing.

Of course, trails stretch well beyond the bounds of the cityscape; an additional 300 miles of hiking trails spread out over Chugach State Park. From short walks to incredible views to multi-day treks through the mountains, hikers won’t quickly bore of the opportunities available from Anchorage. Check the trail conditions, bring the proper gear and watch the weather. Don’t forget to pack a camera to snap the views along the way.
