Get a Taste of Alaska
In a place with such bountiful seafood, fresh produce and proteins, it’s no surprise that Anchorage draws some great chefs. Many restaurants in Anchorage feature local ingredients whenever possible—there’s nothing quite like fresh salmon or reindeer sausage. Often, local restaurants will feature special off-menu dishes when they have greater access to certain fresh ingredients, so always ask for the best way to get a taste of local flavor.
A trip to Anchorage restaurants isn’t the only way to show those taste buds the flavor of Alaska. A dozen breweries operate in the Municipality of Anchorage. Many of them experiment with Alaska flavors, especially in the summer. If there is anything on the tap list featuring spruce tips, rhubarb or blueberries, there’s a good chance the ingredients were sourced locally. The key to brewing in Alaska is the clean and clear, oftentimes glacial, water. Many of Anchorage’s breweries draw water from Eklutna Lake to kickstart the brewing process.
